Sims graphic dilemma - up in the sky!

Computer setup AMD 2600+, 512MB, GeForce4 Ti 128MB

Played for a week, and it was smooth sailing. Updated the graphics and
motherboard drivers, got the Sims 2 patch.
Then while playing suddenly the graphics lost it. All we can see now
is clouded skies.
Moving around, we can get to some black areas, but there are no life
signs! No game settings can change it. But learning mode works ok.
Removed and reinstalled drivers. Removed and reinstalled the game. No
change!

Now what do we do? Someone should've had the same problem, since
there's quite a few of us playing....Help!
