Hard Drives and Static

I'm pretty noob at computers and still learning. I bought a hard drive a little while ago to add more memory to my computer. While opening the plastic enclosure to get the instructions out I accidentally touched the external metal enclosure (not the circuitry or connectors on the bottom, just the metal backing on the top of the drive ). I wasn't grounded at the time

Would doing that cause any static damage to the hard drive down the road?
