Hi folks,

I have been shopping around for components building an AMD Phenom II X4 955 box with 2 sets DDR3 2Gx2 dual channel 1600/1333 RAM (total 8G). However I found not many of them available on market. It looks to me dual channel RAM gradually phasing out market replaced with 2Gx3 triple channel RAM.

Is there any advantage running triple channel RAM over dual channel RAM? I need 8G RAM. If running triple channel RAM I must sacrifice 2G leaving one RAM slot non use.

Which motherboard can support triple channel RAM ? TIA

Yes, not only that but Intel's next chipset will be dual channel.

If you buy X58 it's triple channel. Everything else is dual which I expect to be the standard for many years until we go back to single channel.

But in i7 the memory controller is built into the CPU, right?
