I want to get rid of ATT, they failed to repair my line. Now I have very low speed. I am planning to change to Comcast cable based internet, I see the plans list on its website. A service called “Professional Installation for one computer” is bundled with plans, is that a service for a technician come to your house and connect modem to your computer? And it costs $99, anyone who have Comcast cable but did not pay that money?

I know well about DSL modem settings, most brands and models. But this is going to be the first time for me to use cable internet and cable modem. I have ordered a cable modem, it will arrive by the end of this week. I just want to avoid wasting of money on modem setup if I can. Is cable modem can be set by a nonprofessional? Or only technician from Comcast know the setting which works its cable? Please give me advice, thank you.

If your house already has cable run through it (and where you need for your cable modem) then you can skip the pro install. They'll walk you through the setup over the phone if the self-install kit directions can't get you connected. It will be very similar to DSL.
