I already own a Q6600, and by no means regret it, but I know the other very popular gaming CPU is the E8400. I was wondering which one generally performs better, or has higher 3DMark Vantage scores. We'll assume both are at their highest average gaming clocks, E8400 ~3.8-4.0, and the Q6600 being ~3.0 - 3.4.

very little difference
if you have the right mobo, you have the right cooler

you can run 450-500fsb then go for it with a 4.2ghz system you will see performance increase to some degree

if your going from 3.6 to 3.8 who cares - i have both? little differnece\\

you can run all q6600 in intel chipsets (newer ones) at 3.6ghz

you can run most e8400 at 3.8ghz

you can run many newer e0 e400 much higher and 100% stable at 4.2ghz plus

stay with the quad. As things stand now, the high potential clock speed of the e8400 will be better for games, but more and more games are being optimised for quad cores. Best not to waste money on a dying chip.
