Free Tv info on LyngSat -- How does it work?

The LyngSat website (www.lyngsat.com) lists many free satellite tv channels
from around the world. But how? I'm a complete novice and can't figure out
where to get started. Can someone point me to a tutorial or an FAQ? If I buy
some equipment for a couple of hundred bucks, can I really watch these
channels for free? How do I decrypt DVB, BISS, AccessGate, PowerVu,
Videoguard, etc.?
