Not a Blank CD

Hello,
I'm trying to re-install an old copy of office XP onto my machine running Vista, however once inserted in my machine, it says its a blank CD. Insert it into other machines though and it comes up ready to install. I have used this cd on thei machine before. Any ideas?

Obviously the drive is on the way out. You might try a cleaning disc but I'd put the price of that towards a new drive (assuming this is a desktop computer).

If it's a laptop, hopefully the type where the drawer opens with the laser -- try cleaning lens with alcohol and a cotton wool bud held at one end to reduce pressure on the focusing mechanism.
