Cd drive not detected in xp windows

Hello,
My xp computer will not detect my cd drive, what do I do?

If it's detected in the BIOS, first try this:

If that doesn't solve the problem, try this:

I don't know how to tell if it is detected by the bios, but it isn't detected in the "device manager"
It has been working previous to this problem, it isn't new.

To see if it's detected in the BIOS, boot into the BIOS (usually tap the delete key on startup). Look at the boot devices. You can also just watch the BIOS screens on startup. It should list the detected devices.

Verify that the cables are secure, then try the links above.
