Onboard sound

I have a logitech x-540 which has 5 satellite that all connect into a subwoofer. Then 3 cables come from the subwoofer to the computer. The new motherboards have 6 port to which the speakers are connected. Do you just connect it to the corresponding colors and leave the 3 unused ports along or what else should you do? Or should you just ignore connecting the satellite speakers to the subwoofer and just direct connect them to the ports on the back of the computer?

Generally, I would connect the speakers directly to their corresponding colored ports. The reason why is im assuming if your plug into the sub, you won't be getting the necessary data to the speakers.

Try a setup, and if it doesn't work, try the other one.
