I have a backup computer still using Windows 98. I recently installed a new PC Chips M848A (V 5.0) motherboard, but can't get any sound from it. I installed the driver for RealTek AC '97 Audio, but there was no sound - and no volume control in the taskbar either. I went into "Multimedia Properties" but the "Audio" page, which included the "Show Volume Control on Taskbar" command, was grayed out. I'm using Altec Lansing speakers. I unplugged the speakers, trying to use just the computer speaker, but that didn't help. I uninstalled, and then reinstalled, the RealTek driver, but that didn't work either. I downloaded a "speak.exe" driver from the Microsoft website, but couldn't get that to install properly. I'm using the second edition of Windows 98 and didn't ever have that problem with the old EpOX motherboard. Does anyone know why I can't get any sound since installing the new motherboard? (There were several possible drivers on the CD that came with the motherboard: SiS 7012, SiS 7012-P, SiS 7018, ALi, C-Media 973, C-Media 973X, as well as the one from RealTek. It came with a ReadMe file, but it hasn't been very helpful. Shall I try installing each one? I tried installing the ALi driver, but that wouldn't install at all. Do I need to reset a jumper somewhere?)

In advance, thanks.
