Cd wizard not enough space on disc

I am trying to copy a file to a CD. The error message on the CD writing writing wizard says " there is not enough space for the files. There is 702MB free space on the disc but 2.69GB to write"
I am using a new 800MB CD and the files is 7.11MB. I have tried writing a smaller file but it is still showing exactly the same message.

OK, either the files total 7.11MB or 2.69GB; that is a BIG difference, and you need to figure out why. Are you selecting some hidden files without realizing it?

Try showing hidden files (tools, folder options, show hidden files folders and drives). Then take a look at what you're trying to burn to disc. Some hidden files may be coming along for a ride.
