Wesley,

Tried these links, but found no joy. The keys are there. What I get
is:

Snap-in failed to initialize
Name: Services

Snap-in failed to initalize
Name: Shared Folders

It's driving me berserk!

Thanks for help.

Will either one open from:
Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools |
????

Will they open from:
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | OK

Start | Run | Type: fsmgmt.msc | OK
?????

If not..............

This should expand services.ms_

Start | Run | Type: cmd | OK |
Type: d: [ENTER]
cd i386 [ENTER]
expand services.ms_ c:\windows\system32\services.msc
[ENTER]
(where "d:" is the letter of the CD-ROM drive with the
Windows XP installation disc)
=======

This should expand fsmgmt.ms_

Type: d: [ENTER]
cd i386 [ENTER]
expand fsmgmt.ms_ c:\windows\system32\services.msc

Indeed.

Note that I'm running MMC 2.0 Thinking about d/l 1.1 and seeing if
that makes a difference.

Webster;

Did they both show that they expanded???
===

Did you look @
Snap-in Failed to Initialize" Error Message When You Open Microsoft
Management Console
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;826282

================

Do you have a *real* XP CD or an OEM???

Start | Run | Type: sfc /scannow |OK
Have your XP CD ready to stick in your CD drive

scannow sfc (sfc.exe)
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

Reboot.
========

If you have a real XP CD, find services.msc & fsmgmt.msc,
they live in: C:\WINDOWS\system32. rename 'em to:
services.old & fsmgmt.old. Reboot.
