I'm considering setting up a Raid 0 config in my rig. A local computer parts shop often has 500gb hdds on sale for around $40-$50 (sales like this come almost every other week it seems). I currently have two harddrives, both 7200s...one is a 500gb 16mb cache Maxtor and the other is a 200gb 8mb cache Western Digital (my games and media are on the Maxtor and windows, drivers and non-game programs are on the WD)
Here's what I'm thinking: Buying a Seagate 500gb 16mb cache to run Raid 0 with my Maxtor (for all my games), then buying a 1tb 64mb cache WD Caviar Green ($84, to run windows 7 64bit and all my media), and using my 200gb for backing up important files.
I would be running Raid through my MSI 790fx-gd70 mobo, which has two Raid sata ports for onboard raid configuration.
As with every other upgrade I've discussed on TomsHardware, I'm on a very tight budget. SSD's and Raptors are out of the question.
Any input on this plan or any other ideas for maximizing my system's performance?

I appreciate the input but if you read the OP, I cannot possibly afford to buy $150-$600 worth of hardware.
I am aiming to buy a hdd similar to one I have for the raid, about $50 max. Then some time in a few months I was going to buy a 1tb 7200 hdd to upgrade (about $84) and install 64bit win 7.
I'm only going to have games on the raid 0 setup. Windows will remain on a third hdd independent of the raid. This way if I have data loss, I wont lose my OS or media, ill just have to reinstall my games.
Edit and update: Upon talking to a friend who currently uses Raid 0, I think I will buy the 2nd 500gb hdd and setup my Raid with both my OS and my games on it. I will then keep my 200gb hdd for backup and extra storage.
One final question: My current hdd in a 500gb 16mb cache maxtor. Will I have any problems if I buy a 500gb 16mb cache seagate? I figured I should be fine if their speed, cache and size are the same.
