Hey dudes and Dudettes. I am currently wondering what you guys have successfully overclocked your Q6600 to? On Air. Mine currently is at 3.0ghz at 39C. The reason i am asking is that I just upgraded my system, and I believe my q6600 may be some what of a bottleneck. Also if you have overclocked well over 3GHZ, could you please post what Voltage and FSB you did it with, and maybe a temp.....?

780i FTW
GTX 295
Q6600 3ghz
Vista Ultimate
8GB of OCZ Reaper
Zalmon 9700
1KW ThermalTake Toughpower
160gb raptor
500gb WD Caviar

Thanks,

Jake aka #UF#Icarus

Well I am running at 3.1GHz with no fuss. Average temperature is 38 deg. Celsius but goes up to 49 deg. when all cores are pushed. I am running a cheapo aftermarket $30.00 HSF. I also lapped my processor and use Arctic Silver.

Default x9 Multiplier
345MHz Bus Speed
Default Core Voltage
GO Processor

There is still plenty of headroom on the processor.

I would say that if you have a G0, you should reach 3.4-3.6 GHz or so, while with the pre-G0 6600s, 3.2 was more realistic. As for exact voltages, it depends on the CPU. For temps, keep them under 70C full load and you should be completely fine.

would you see a big improvement in games going from stock to 3.0ghz?
And also is it safe to say that all G0 stepping versions can get to 3.0ghz?

While I will never say anything definite when overclocking (the CPU is only ever guaranteed at stock frequency), I will say that you would be extraordinarily unlucky to get a G0 that couldn't reach 3GHz. That isn't anywhere near the limit for most G0 Q6600 CPUs.

Of course, that doesn't mean that they will reach that speed on just any motherboard. IIRC, the 680i was especially bad for OC quads.

My moms was riding at 3.8 Ghz for awhile, but don't expect that.
