I'm just building a computer based on an Asus M3A78 Pro, with an AMD 6000 CPU dual core.

For some reason, the PCI Express will not recognize the Graphics card, so far I've put a GeForce 9500 GT and a XFX Geforce 9600 in there and the driver installation reports there is no hardware installed to suit the driver.

Tried this with all the latest and the previous drivers.

Is this a Dud PCI E slot on the Mobo, or am I missing something?

Yes, it does.

It would seem that I have to install the built in graphics first of all, which I'm currently doing, and then install the add on, PCIE Card.

youll have to go into the BIOS and set the the board to boot from the PCI card.
Depending on the BIOS there are differing ways to do it but basically make sure the card is in and look in the BIOS for the line to change the option.

Dont worry about drivers yet as the card will boot to vanilla VGA until you put drivers to it.
When windows tries to give it drivers tell it no and use the disk that you have with the drivers on.

Pat,

I'd already done that, and the ASUS bios indicates that the PCI Express is the default card to use.

<<<and use the disk that you have with the drivers on.>>>>

Already tried that, but it didn't work.

So far, I've done a fresh install, using the on board graphics, and installed all the motherboard utilities.

Then, I'm about to fit the Graphics card and hope it installs okay.

I've heard elsewhere that others have issues installing both graphics and sound on this board, so I don't think I'm alone:)

I'll report back when I've finished, hopefully this afternoon, hopefully successfully:)

Pat and 17 rawr,

I've sorted it now, thank you for all your help.

What I did, was install the OS, Win XP Pro, using the XFX 9500GT, as vanilla graphics.

Then I installed the motherboard drivers, one by one, with a reboot after each.

Then I installed the drivers for the 9500GT from the supplied disk, then updated it from Nvidias website to the latest driver.

Updated the windows installation.

Thing runs just fine now, obviously it was a case of taking things a bit more methodically while installing.

Thank you!
