Saw the Q9300 for $179 at the local microcenter.

Been wanting to build a new budget system... would this be worth picking up?

would like to keep the price $600-700.

Need:
cpu/mobo
ram
psu
gpu

have:
antec 300 case
1TB sata hdd
O/S (have Win XP, not a huge Vista fan)
dvd drive

Computer would be used for light gaming, surfing, movies.

Thanks

Go with a P45 board, Gigabyte has some $100 boards that are good. DDR2 ram is very cheap now a days so two sticks of 2Gig memory won't cost you very much. A 400-500W PSU is all you'll really need since you only do light gaming. You could probably get away with a 350W PSU depending on the GPU you choose. Go with either a 4670 or a 4850. The 4670 probably being a better choice for you since you can get it below $100 for a good card that if you want later can be crossfired.

Go with that CPU for 180.

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819115043
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231098
MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128359
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817153023
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814133239

PRICES:

CPU: $180
RAM: Either $32 or $64
MOBO: $120 -$15
PSU: $42 + $ 12
GPU: $100 + $ 10

The total of this would be somewhere around 500.

BTW which Microcenter?

Thanks for the advice, guys. I was already leaning towards the UD3P or UD3R Gigabyte mobo, and 4670 for the gpu.

After looking up some specs on the q9300, I was less impressed with it.
Im considering going the oc e5200/7300/8400 route and adding a better heatsink

How much will that change the ram and psu reqs?
