I just posted this about 2 hours ago and now my post is gone:

Hi guys, my first post.

Ok, so I have a build in mind and would like to see if there's any major hardware incompatibilities.

I'm lookin at:

Intel DP45Sg (with the Crossfire support thing :P)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700

Some sort of RAM(suggestions welcome)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 160GB Hard Drive

Antec Neo High Efficiency 550W ATX PC Power Supply(Crossfire certified)

Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 Video Card (I'll start with 1)

Some sort of DVD cd drive so I can load CD's/DVD and write(suggestions welcome)

Ultra X-Blaster ATX Mid Tower Case

And Windows Home til I decide on XP Pro or Vista

My main goal is to get it up and running

Thanks for any feedback.

Omg I was responding to this when it got deleted and stuff...round two.

It looks good, but I'll throw in some recommendations for you. All of my recommendations will be coming from Newegg.

First the hard drive. Right now your 160GB hard drive is $45.99 w/o shipping. With shipping it is $54.54, for me at least. Personally, I think you should drop the extra $5 and get this 500GB hard drive for $59.99. It has double the cache and over double the capacity.

For the RAM, I would grab some Corsair memory. It has free shipping and has a nice mail in rebate with it. For now just keep it at 2GB since you're running XP Home. I would upgrade to a 64-bit OS later though so you can add more RAM later on (past 4GB).

I am no an expert on power supplies, but if I were you I would use the eXtreme PSU Calculator so you can future proof your system's power supply for when you add hardware later on. Like your plans for crossfire.

Hope this helps a bit.

That MB uses DDR3, find one with DDR2, cheaper and better bang for buck now.
Where did you find a Q6700 for sale, I would use a Q6600.
G.Skill is good RAM, go 2gb for XP and 4GB for vista.
Small HD, is it big enough or you?
Good choice on the video card.
any DVD burner will work, Samsung or Lite-ON are good.
I have a hard time believeing you use Xfire on 550W

Thanks man, I was looking at WD's HDD's also.

Corsair seems like a good bet but I just want to make sure theres no conflicts between the mobo and the memory. I've heard some horror stories about new builds and component incompatibilities.

Is this the motherboard you are getting? If so, it should be ok with that memory. If you go over to the "Specifications" tab, it shows you what the memory standard for that motherboard is.

alcattle, I'm looking at a bundle deal mobo and cpu. I can afford the q6700 bundled. Plus I hear q6700 is better for OCing., which is something I would like to explore.

I tried the eXtreme Power Supply Calculator and I'm still 100 watts under with extra drives that I don't need, sound card, crossfire, and ddr3.

I read a few reviews and hardware trials and the Antec 550w seemes one of the more stable PSU's in my price range plus I know that it's crossfire certified.

This is the mobo/cpu bundle I'm looking at:

That bundle has the Q6600 in it, not the Q6700 in your OP. On newegg right now that exact same bundle, well it's not a bundle but yeah w/e, (motherboard and CPU) is $348.95 shipped. I also think everyone here will recommend Newegg over Tigerdirect because of the customer support. I have never had any problems with Newegg.

Why would they be the same price? q6700 not moving?

Ok, you're going to be paying $454.99 up front at TigerDirect for that bundle. Now, someone here correct me if I'm wrong, but the only difference I can see in the Q6600 and the Q6700 is that the Q6700 is clocked a little higher (Q6600 = 2.4GHz and the Q6700 = 2.66GHz). You could overclock the Q6600 EASILY to match the speeds of the Q6700. Save a little bit of cash and get Q6600.

Reply to mwayne5

Actually I'm willing to spend up to $400 on a cpu and board, are the q8XXX better for futureproofing than the q6700?

Reply to Kiehlroy

Ok, so the Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHz is lookin good to me now

Not sure what to tell about the CPU, must be new as it has no reviews on Newegg and not on Tom's CPU charts yet. Specs look ok though
