Dear all,

I have installed win xp on my laptop HP DV9760ED. I have also installed all drivers. Only the microphone doesn't work.

For information the connexant HD audio output is working good, so i can listen to sounds.

Can you help me with this problem.

Than you very much

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Check in Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Voice tab and see that the microphone is present and set as the default device for recording.

check your windows volume settings for mic
right click the speaker icon in tray > open volume control > options > properties > select recording radio button > hit ok > check that microphone bar is all the way up

All I can think of is that it's plugged in the wrong socket - on my sound card it's hard to tell the difference between the pink of the microphone socket and the sort of salmon colour of one of the others that I don't normally use. If your laptop is one of those with built-in microphone, try adding an external. Have you run the Microsoft hardware test in Sounds and Audio Devices?
