I'm building my first ever desktop and have gotten to the actual building phase - specifically, CPU into mobo.

I have an i7 920 and an ASUS P6T.

My question is, how much resistance should I expect on the load lever when installing the CPU? I definitely have the CPU oriented correctly in the mobo (and, no, the protective plastic is removed from the CPU...), but I'm feeling a little more resistance then I expected when pulling back on the load lever to lock in the chip. I'm probably just a bit gun-shy as this is my first build and everything...

Anyway, I backed up to initial conditions (plug in the mobo and CPU back in the case) until I feel a little more confident.

When the lever is lifted and the socket cleared the cpu should drop in with little resistance. You will feel some resistence as you replace the lever to the locked position. It is basically a clamping mechanism so once the cpu is in (all the way) it will require a little more force.

I found a friend of mine who just installed the same CPU/mobo combo and met the same resistance that I did (or, as he described it, "A hell of a lot more than I was expecting, but everything works fine" ).

Anyway, I feel much better now.
