ASUS cards and drivers

I have two ASUS 4850 TOP in CF. Can I safely install and use ATI's driver instead of using ASUS's? ASUS drivers are way behind (latest version is 8.5, while ATI is 9.1), but I'm just wondering if ATI's driver is compatible with this particular ASUS version of 4850, being overclocked at 680Mhz compared to 625Mhz being stock.

Sure. anyway that 8.5 driver belongs to ATI, not ASUS, so you could use another ATI driver. Just don't install an nVidia driver that's all.

I see. I'm curious though, why did ASUS release their own driver instead of directing users to ATI's website? All for the sake of having their own logo in CCC?

I'm just being extra cautious coz I wonder if ASUS added their own customisation to ATI's driver to better run their overclocked cards...

Or does the core clock freq. have nothing to do with the driver?
