Hi,

I have removed my hard drive from a disfunctional WD Mybookworld casing and fitted it in a HDD external enclosure, connectedby USB to my laptop. OS, Windows XP. Although I can see it in my sytems devices, there i no option logged as a drive. Can anyone advise me as to how I can access the data?

Thanks....

Check in the Disk Manager
Click Start > Run and type diskmgmt.msc in the Open: line and click OK
Check to see if there is an assigned drive letter and how the drive is partitioned.

The Mybookworld has its own onboard hardware and software, so your drive may be formated and partitioned in such a way that it will not work outside of the unit as it is. Re-partitioning it would likely solve this, but would delete all your data.
