GeForce 9500 GS problem

Hi there, heres my problem :
nvidia uses 3 modes : 2d, low3d and 3d performance (changing clocks)
In newer games like witcher, fallout3 etc. i suffer this problem :
2d mode (its called battery saving but dont be fooled ) : low fps, but no choppy performance
low3d, 3d perf : nice fps, but games looks like choppity - chop - chop
dunno mayb overheating or what
any ideas?

and specs :
asus m51 laptop : intel c2d @ 2.4GHz, 3GB ram, gf 9500 M GS ...

Try playing with the Vsync, see if the games run better with it on or off.
Download and use Rivatuner to check the GPU temperatures then repost with the info.
I`ve no idea what a safe temperature is or a laptop GPU, but I`m betting it`s lower than for a desktop, hopefully someone with more knowlage will reply with the right numbers.

I've tried messing with Vsync - same results.
GPU temp - in 90 C fan starts cooling loudly, max temp was about 97-98 C.
