Building a computer for the first time, wanted to get some input on the various parts, as well as if I would need anything other than a general toolbox to put it together. Going to use the computer for mmo's and shooters generally, looking to stay under $1000.00. Will be reusing my monitor (24) and speakers. I plan to overclock the processor.

Also would like a quiet to very quiet machine, if possible.

Here's the component list I picked out thus far:
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 2.66 GHz $119.00
Antec 900 $109.99
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V $79.99
MSI R4850-512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 (would this be able to run 1920x1200?) $179.99 Also was looking at the Gtx 260 216.
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (wasn't sure if this system would benefit from 1066 v. 800) $44.00
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R $104.99
WD Caviar 320GB 7200 RPM $79.99
Scythe SCSK-1000 100mm "SHURIKEN" CPU Cooler $29.99
Total: $746.95

Any advice is appreciated!

if you are going to overclock a lot, then the 1066ddr2 will come in handy (I got mine going at 1100ish from memory, it boots at 1200 but isn't stable with 24/7 voltages from what I can see).
As for a 24inch monitor, you want to get a 4870 or a 260+. Anything below is just not going to be satisfying.
For the cpu, if you can afford a couple of extra dollars, go for an e8400 since it lets you push some impressive numbers.

I disagree with the RAM suggestion. You should be more than OK with DDR2 800 with that CPU. It has a 10x multiplier and 266 FSB - even if you got that thing up to a 1:1 ratio it would be near 4.0 Ghz.

Plus, you can OC RAM as well. I would stick with a good 2x2GB kit near the standard 1.8v

+1 for an E8400 if you can get it. If you go to 1:1 with the RAM, you can have that thing at 3.6 Ghz without even pushing it.

The system looks good. I would say look around for that case - I have the 900 and love it, but you ought to be able to find it much cheaper.

I would say for that kind of money, you should get a Western Digital 640 GB HDD - even the Black edition will be around that price or cheaper.

I would check out a different cooler - Xigmatek is highley recommended (get the retention bracket if you do).

+1 on a GPU change - a GTX 260 or 4870 would be much better for that resolution.

Have fun. Good luck.

Also, perhaps wait a couple weeks if you can? When the 295 hits, you may be pleasantly surprised at some price drops...

go cheaper with the RAM, case (antec 300?), & PSU,
spend more with an E8400 CPU & get a cheap 4870 GPU (best bang for buck).

then you'll have what i built a few days ago for around the same cost ($900 USD) & it runs crysis with ~20FPS on very high @ 1920x1200, & stable temps.
