I'm thinking about getting an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz. I do know that the stock fan and sink is usually not enough to keep these processors cool, however, would a stock sink and fan from an Intel Q6600 Quad-Core Processor work near or as good as an aftermarket cooler? I'm at the point where dollars are becoming important in my build. Thanks for the help.

the stock fan will cool it no problem just as long as you arent planning on doing any serious overclocking

Is the fan even compatible? The stock cooler should be fine for mild OC'ing depending on your room temp.

They're both LGA 775. I just remember hearing that the quad cores run hotter than the dual cores.

just stick with the stock cooler

Providing you don't wrap it in cotton-wool or overclock then the stock cooler will be fine.

Haha, that first option is pretty tempting though...
