Hi Everyone, I am looking to either build my own computer or to purchase one. I need a computer that will allow me to do mathematical computations, 3d graphics, physics, video editing, & what ever else I want at lightning speeds. I was currently looking to purchase this motherboard:

P6T7 WS SuperComputer
intel centrino2
Ultimate Supercomputing Solution for CUDA Parallel Programming

* Intel® Core™ i7 Processor and Xeon® processor supported
* Nvidia® nForce 200 X2
* CUDA Parallel computing supported
* 7 PCI-E Gen2 x16 IO onboard
* ATI CrossFireX & NVIDIA Geforce SLI Support

I was thinking about using either the Intel i7 965 or the Xeon cpu
I wanted around 12gb of the Corsair Dominator's
I was also thinking about putting 4 ati dual cards & probably 3 gtx 295 cards
A 1.5tb to 4tb hard drive
2000w dual power supply
Liquid Cooling
Recovery & Anti-virus solution
1 x Touch sensor power button
1 x Built-in biometric fingerprint scanner ensures the ultimate security.
Audio: Supreme FX II Audio Card
Card Reader: CF/Micro Drive/MS/MS Pro/MMC/SD/xD/Smart Media

or try to find a great motherboard that supports 2 cpu's and build that up. i would like to know if what i typed down for my computer will all work together or not. If you have a better suggestion please feel free to comment on what changes you recommend, thanks.

Newegg has an asus z8na dual xeon board for $259.99 that might work for you. Pay close attention to the recommended memory. Asus usually has some listed on their website. I would also go for a low end video card. I found my 2400xt for only $20 after rebate recently at newegg (shell shocker special). I wouldn't load up with high end video cards if you're going to leave your system on 24/7. My cheapo video card only uses about 25 watts. The higher end video cards can use 3x as much. I'd start out with one of the 80w xeon quad cores and see how it performs; you may not even need a second one. You can also download the board manual and checkout the memory setups. This only takes a few minutes; always a good idea before placing your order.

Please clarify this, are you intending to put both ati and nvidia in this box? I would advise against trying that, as the ati and nvidia drivers will not play nicely together. Both can offer the parallel GPGPU functionality you are looking for to crunch calcs with, however the P6T7 "supercomputer" motherboard you're looking at supports the CUDA platform, so you will want nvidia cards.

Also, what is your budget for this build? Your shopping list is a tall order, as it were.

Can you be more specific about what applications you will be using?

The more specific and detailed you are about what you want, and what you intend to do with it, the better we will be able to guide you in your purchases.

(OTOH this could be a pipe dream)

I will try to answer your question "Mtyermom" as best as I can for you. I simply wish to do all of these things with it:

computational applications in the fields of life science, engineering science, financial modeling, electronic design automation and virtualization.

I see your point on the ATI & NVIDIA cards. I might as well use 3 NVIDIA Tesla cards and one NVIDIA Quadro card instead of the other setup. I could probably run a three 3-Way SLI-capable GeForce graphics cards while having the option of running a CrossFireX setup.

My budget for this particular computer is $9,000-$10,000. I am not really worried about the money per say I am more worried about the setup of the computer. I want the computer to soar through the internet as well as perform it normal duties. Shoot, I might as well go all out with the memory and install all 24(25.6?) of it. I don't need a computer that is going to look at me for about a minute or so trying to figure out applications that would take a normal computer like this one seconds. I'm looking to build or purchase a high end computer.

If your all set on Consair Dominator I would take a look at the GT model. With the GT model you have the option for water cooling if you choose to do so with the addition of the removable heat exchanger. I would call Consair for a compatibility check, this ram is fairly new and is not on their configurator.

Thank you for taking a look at my forum and supplying me with a website for the Corsair dominator.
