Updating SSD Firmware in what mode?

Hello,
I am ready to update my intel x-25m ssd drives firmware but I didnt see anything about having to be in IDE or AHCI mode to update. Does it not matter? Theres no Operating System on it yet so its fresh.

The Readme.txt file for the 02HD firmware I installed says:

BIOS STORAGE CONFIGURATION
This tool will only function correctly with the BIOS SATA ports configured to "Legacy" / "Compatibility" mode, or "AHCI" mode. Some BIOS configurations support SATA port modes such as "IRRT", "RAID", and "Native + IDE" mode, which are not supported by this utility.

oh I see. I guess ill just do it in AHCI mode to be safe. Thank you for the quick reply!
