Missing ethernet controller after installing xp

Just did a fresh XP pro over Win 2000 and now I have now VGA or Ehternet Controller..Yellow ? mark in device manager code 28, missing controller

The XP drivers for the MB controllers in question will be needed.

Old Dell e-machine and old Sony PCG 505 laptop. I guess I can google the drivers for the laptop and might find them. As far as the motherboard never really paid attention to the guts of a desktop but guess I'll open it up and have a look. Hope there is some sort of identification on it somewhere. Thanks for the pointer

Go to dell's support site. You can enter your service tag and it will show your laptop's make/model. You can download the drivers from there.
