Is 8800gtx worth putting in SLI or is it dead?

I have an 8800 GTX and I'm wondering if its worth spending $100-150 to buy an additional card and put it in sli or if I should just keep saveing and get a better card in like 6 months.

And would it be worth putting in a third 8800gtx since the mb and gpu can do 3 way sli?
Thanks

System
intel core 2 duo e6600 (overclocked to 3046)
4gb ddr2 800 (dominator)
Nforce 680i (evga 122-ck-nf68)
52" lcdtv running at 1920X1080 (hence the question)
raid etc....

Its funny I felt this dilemma just a week ago. I had a 8800 gts 512 (G92) and was really tempted to just get a used or cheap 2nd GPU and ride it out another Gen or so. Your GPU is a tad better than mine was by itself but even still in SLI both of our rigs would still lag behind top single cards that are out now. I myself went with a gtx 285 because I favor single cards, and like EVGA support, that way if I get some extra money or want to upgrade again I do still have SLI as an option. After reading through much of this forum I've seen quite a few ppl down on quad setups over 2 card or even 3 card setups. So that really turned me off of the 4870x2 and gtx 295 (that and the pricetag lol). The 3850x2 is sapphire supported only too so I was once again turned off from that. Which really only left the gtx 260 core 216 and radeon 4870 1gig. and from there I just decided to go with the top card. Decision is yours.

I would consider to sli if you can get another 8800gtx cheap like under 130$. 8800gtx is still a fast powerful card and should play most games nicely. As for tri sli i wouldnt do it most people that tried it and saw only min gains.

Yeah i was always confused about that, I mean 9800 GX2 quad scaled better than 8800 GTX tri. I wonder why that was the case for the cards.

The 8800 GTX has alot of advantage because of the extra ram it has, and bus width, which still makes it a worthy card even for todays standards. I beleive the 8800 GTX should be arond the power of a 9800 GTX. And remember you can overclock the 8800 GTX to Ultra:)

If it'll only cost you 100$, then its worth it; but 8800's are end of life now as far as I know, so support/replacement due to hardware failure options will be limited.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the responces and I feel a little better knowing that im not the only one having a hard time with this decision. So I guess it will come down to how cheap can I get the card, but I may just jump up to a new one.

Thanks again.

and if u have any other ideas let me know
