Going from a p4 3ghz ht cpu to a e6600

hi hope you can give me two minutes of your time.

i want to upgrade my cpu from a p4 3ghz ht cpu, to ae6600 dual core cpu.

now my question is... are the Hals the same for a ht cpu & a duel core cpu?
as far as the os (xp home ) is concerned & it should be just a plug & play job... :)

I was talking to Sulu who suggested the 8400.
So don't shake your head at me! :P

And as I said, when I went from my netburst Pentium D to my Core 2 Q6600 I needed to reinstall windows so you will probably need to something similar.
  6. Just had a flashback.

I needed to reinstall windows for my mobo change, but not the CPU which followed the next month. you may be ok too.

    ahh ok :)
  9. Since the P4 had HT, you should be good with the multithreaded OS files. As long as the mobo doesn't change you should be OK. You may have to re-register Windows though ;)
