Yes its a big jump. Unlike the 3870x2 the gtx280 can handle aa much better. The gtx280 is most likely 50-75% faster depending on game and you dont have to worry about multi gpu setup.

WOW!! That big of difference really? Thanks for the info. I was kind of worried because of the X38 chip. It mentions ati crossfire-X but nothing about nvidia in the mobo book. I realize I cant do sli with the x38, but a single gtx 280 should be ok? cool!
No Problem let me no if you have any more questions.
Oh ya check out the gtx285 it should be priced similar to the gtx280 its a die shrink of the card runs cooler, uses less energy and overclocks a little bit more.
Thanks for all the info guys. I found a person on Craigslist.org with a new BFG Gtx 285 OCE card willing to trade for my PS3.
Will hook it up tomorrow and check out - iRacing, Call of Duty W@W, and GTA IV.
I'm going to use ati uninstall to remove the drivers/chipset, then reboot into safe-mode and run Driver Sweeper to remove all remnants of ATI. Then boot in normally and install the latest nvidia drivers.
