GeForce 9400GT PCI for DELL Dimension E310

Forum Graphics & Displays : Nvidia GeForce 9400GT PCI for DELL Dimension E310

I am on a mission the family Dell.
Specs
Mobo Intel 775 chip, with two PCI slots
P4 2.8 with H/T
2 Gb DDR 2 PC2 4200
80gb HDD (doesn't really matter but thought I would put it in)
230W Standard Power Supply

It was a budget PC in 2006 when they got it, and it hasn't changed. I added the 2Gb ram this week to give it a little kick. I am going to reinstall windows ( first time sense it was bought) and want to add a VGA card for better Video play back and over all performance.

However due to the fact that it is only PCI, my choices are low.
When I had opened up I noticed it had a free slot, did some searching and found this on newegg:

I just wanted to check and see if it is really PCI card, I have been outta of the Computer tech world for a while, I want to make sure they don't call PCI express 1.0 just PCI now or something.

Also over all do you think it will work my system, especially with a 230W PSU

Yes those are PCI ports.

Best PCI card I am aware of is the HD2400 PRO (make sure its the PCI version).

The PSU looks a bit weak, these Dells are built with the minimum possible for the hardware without a graphics card, so you may have to look at upgrading that.

The only thing that you should worry about is the 230w psu. I dont exactly know the exact amount of power it needs but it will probably say a minimum of 300W. I know that because i also have an aging dell e310 and im planning on buying this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814187041
it is not the same card but i dont think an 9400 would require less power than a 8400.
Btw the radeon 2400 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814131082, has been said to be able to play crysis on high sttings with a dell e310, and also doesnt require much power(minimum of 200W)

I just bought a 9400gt and can't get it to work! It freezes up the machine during boot on my 310 and when I installed it on my other computer I get no display. Any settingds that you changed?
