I've been given the task of building a new home computer for my family.
I've decided I want to build an Intel system, so I started off by deciding on the processor (e8500). The next logical step was to choose the motherboard I wanted - however this is where I start to get lost. I've been seeing different types of chipsets on different motherboards, and I don't know what the difference between them are. Which processors are compatible with which chipsets? What are the advantages of certain chipsets over another?
From the research I've done I've gathered that the P35 and P45 chipsets are the 'mainstream' chipsets. I know that the P45 offers support for two video cards whereas the P35 doesn't, but is that the only advantage? I don't need dual video cards, but is the e8500 going to be able to work with the P35?

Also, where can I find out this type of information.
Thanks.

I recommend a motherboard based on the newer P45 chipset. If you don't need Crossfire, then get a motherboard like the the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 813128372. Not all P45 motherboards support Crossfire.
