Blinking cursor on boot Asus eee netbook

Hello,
I can get to BIOS setup but otherwise it goes directly to blinking cursor with no errors or information. Please advise?

I had this same problem on Toshiba Laptop. Black screen blinking cursor. BIOS detects drive etc. I ran seagate tests which failed to find problem.I discovered failed HDD. I installed new HDD and laptop was fine.
You will need a new HDD.

yes, it sees the hard drive and all hardware, I'm thinking the OS crashed, but I'm not even getting an error stating "no operating system found" or "no hard drive found"
