Anyone know how to update an ASUS P5K Pro RAID BIOS? The machine will boot normally if not configured for RAID operation. Once RAID is enabled in the BIOS, the machine locks up just after passing the memory test.

You can't update the RAID BIOS, you can only update the BIOS. Have you tried disconnecting one of the hard disks to see if it works?

Nope. that doesn't work. It was orginally a RAID-5 volume with 4 drives. My current issue was caused by plugging in a defective USB device and rebooting. After the reboot, my RAID volume was gone. My first attempt to remedy was to update the BIOS via a Flash drive and it sees that just fine. After clearing battery RAM (to get it to stop hanging), it seems to work normally and read a Windows XP disk. As soon as I go back into the BIOS and set the SATA controller for RAID (in order to keep my data), it locks up on booting right after the memory test and reporting that my Flash drive was detected. I also notice at the bottom of the screen: "American Megatrends" and then some numbers. Within that block of numbers is part of my home address in readable ASCII. That's why I reloaded the BIOS and cleared the NV memory, trying to get rid of that. Must be some NV memory or other BIOS somewhere in this machine.

So it's actually trying to read info from the hard disks, but it fails. Is your Flash drive still connected? It won't even let you use Ctrl+I to access the Intel Matrix Raid? Just in case a hard disk is causing the issue, have you tried removing a single one at a time?

I hope you have a recent full backup.

After clearing NV-RAM, I can boot with any of the and all of the drives in place and read a Windows disk. I even pulled out a 5th drive and installed XP on that. Used the ASUS update tool to update the BIOS as well. Everything works great until I go back into the BIOS and set the SATA Configuration to RAID.
Then it still hangs just after the memory and USB configuration. Ctrl-I does nothing. I can press DEL at this point and the BIOS says its going into setup, but nothing happens or changes.

The Ameican Megatrends spray of hex across the bottom of the screen still part of my address in it.

To me, it appears the RAID option ROM has been corrupted, becasue Crtl-I doesn't work and the machine is fine in non-RAID modes. Isn't this supposed to be part of the BIOS? Is there a tool to update the option ROMs?

Is your motherboard still under warranty? If so, you should contact Asus.

What address is in it? IP address, Ethernet controller address, some other address?
