Hey guys!

I've been researching for weeks, yet nobody seems to know much about routers round here. I hope you can help.

What I'm looking for:

- needs to hold up to THOUSANDS of connections, think 10-20 parallel Bittorrent downloads/seeds and upwards
- I'd love it to be compatible with custom firmwares like dd-wrt and so on
- wlan would be nice

So, in a few words: Performance, performance, performance, bomb-proof, dd-wrt-compatible...

Some guys suggested Draytek, but they are a small company, pretty expensive and have no custom firmware...
Ah, PS: I also don't wanna turn a PC into a router...

If anybody could help I'd be eternally grateful! I've been researching for like 3 weeks now without much success...

The routers you're looking for is generally in the business/enterprise class and are not marketed to consumers. The price they command, you'll be better off turning a PC into a router as you suggested. Or build a small cheap power-efficient PC.

I really don't want another box and it's noise and heat in my room...

Could you name some of the more affordable business routers you mentioned?
