okay i dont no either to get a AMD Phenom II X4 940 quad core 3.0ghz with a motherboard that will run ddr2 ram or a AMD Phenom II X4 810 2.6GHz with a motherboard with ddr3 ram the only reason this a problem because the 940 is a am2+ socket and the motherboards with that socket can not run ddr3 but the 810 has a am3 socket and that has motherboards that can run ddr3 ram. but the 810 is 2.6 ghz please help.

More about : amd phenom

The 940 is considerably better than the 810. DDR3 wont make a huge difference.
If you are adamant on DDR3, get the Phenom II X3 720 and overclock it.

If you dont mind DDR2, get the 940 and overclock it.

Does it need to be an X4? Maybe an X3 would do whatever you want just as well as the X4 and save you some cash too to dump into a more expensive motherboard or ram.

Generally, I usually suggest going with the most modern CPU socket, as it gives you the option of popping in a better CPU in a year or 2.

Edit: Curse you for beating me to it TTL!

Or wait a bit for the X4 955 and have the best of both worlds.

Higher end Phenom II AM3 processors come out on April 20th or something like that. Phenom II 955 @ 3.2Ghz and I believe the Phenom II 945 and 925 are suppose to release as well.
