I am wanting to build a system for HD video editing (1080i/1080p). I have not built a system in some time and am not sure how much the build will cost. I am currently budgeting $1500 for this build. This would run Sony Vegas 8 and Adobe after-effects.
I thought 8GB of RAM and 3 HD 500gb each with 2 being in RAID setup would be good. The processor .... well I am blanking on. Not sure how much I need to buy, especially to stay in budget.
Then there is the video card - I have no clue which one.
Anyway, looking for any recommend system setups for such a task.
Thanks.

Get WD6401AALS disks (640GB, $80 at newegg). They are faster than the 500GB disks.
You need a quad CPU for that kind of programs. Here's a combo Phenom II 940/ 790 GX motherboard for $335. With this combo you don't need to buy a graphics card, because it has the best integrated video system available. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Comb [...] mbo.153681
Something like Q6600+GA-EP45-UD3P+HD 4670 would be 10% slower, it would cost about $40 more, but it would be better if you play games.
