So, I'm using XP x64 Professional Edition, and had 4GB of DDR2 RAM. Task manager reported ~ 500MB of RAM usage.

Since I have many programs, some legal, some not, I've managed to get myself infected, and I had a good clean out last week. But still it took my laptop [Core2Extreme, WD320 Scorpio Black, 4GB OCZ perf ram] around 2 to 3 mins to shut down. What a pain.

Today I upgraded to 8GB of RAM [Crucial 4GB x 2], and despite Windows not reporting an increased level of RAM usage - my computer shuts-down almost instantaneously when required.

So what gives?

I have no addittional processes / programs / startup items. Just the change if RAM size.

BTW, both module pairs are CAS5.
