does overclocking your graphics card make a difference? i tried running a 4650 at 700mhz up from 600 and changing the mem to 550 from 500 but didn't really notice a difference. Also it made my 2nd display flash all the time. am i doing it wrong?

well it depends, you may have pushed your card too much. i just bought a xfx 4850 and used the ati overdrive to auto-overclock it and it went from core/shader=625mhz to 685mhz and the memroy went from 995mhz to 1153mhz but then i noticed in crysis warhead i would get artifacting in the form of white dots but not all the time so i lowerd my memory clock to 1143mhz and it stopped. as for performance increase i gained a few fps with this auto-oc. i guess it just depends on how much of an oc it is.

Go up in small steps (from 600), and use Furmark to test for stability each time. Memory OCing doesn't make much of a difference.

lol pretty much the same for me but just slightly different.

i tried playing the new stalker game with a STOCK system at max settings for my resolution and it was very choppy. i overclocked my card to roughly the same settings and it performed MUCH better. i can totally say its worth it! and i agree that ATi overdrive on auto always makes your mem overclock WAY too much and cause mad artifcating like that. i had to totally lower my ram as well.

Ok thanks everyone. I just wanted a little boost while I was waiting for my 4850. I'll try going up slower.

it could also be that you're other components are being a 'bottleneck'
