Vista sleep mode bug

Alright, i work on my dad's computer because i have more patience with it and this morning the computer just went into the new vista sleep mode and refuses to come out of it no matter what we do. However if we unplug the hard drive that windows vista is on and just leave the other hard drives plugged in then it starts perfectly fine. If someone can help without us having to reformat the HD then that would be of a major help

Its working now, what it turns out was the problem was that one of the hard drives seems to have been causing a short circuit which caused the computer to shut down to protect the data.
