I have a computer that originally had windows XP home edition installed on it. I have windows vista home premium installed on it now. I want to put a new, faster CPU into it, so looking into that I found that I need to update the BIOS. When I found the software download for the motherboard that is in my computer, it does not offer anything for vista. It does have one for XP. My question is, can I go ahead and download the BIOS update for the XP? Or will that be a big mistake?
Yes, thanks. But I already knew that a week ago. What I'm looking for is what to do. I already know what not to do. Do you have any advise for what to do?

It would make no difference, if there was an option there for Vista it would be the same bios.
1: Save BIOS to floppy/CD-Rom (unpacked) (Don't think flash drives work for this purpose)
2: During boot, there is a button which will start the utility to flash BIOS (different by mobo, hence why we needed to know the type of mobo you have)
Do not perform a flash from Windows, as too many things can go wrong, and you can brick your board.
This is not my area of expertiese, but these are the basic steps. As a rule though, never update BIOS unless you need to for some reason.
