Is there any disadvantage to pairing a Phenom II 955 with this mobo (AM2/AM2+/AM3).

Or to state the question another way, is there any advantage to buying a AM3 only motherboard? Will I get better performance? Will the RAM run faster, etc?

The newegg combo special ends in just hours and I really like this board. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something big here.

Thanks.

i JUST noticed that there's a nearly identical board

Same everything except it's a pure AM3 board AND the hyper transport is liated as 2600 vs 2000 on the other board?

Is there a performance difference? Or is the 2000 number due to slower DDR2 RAM?

With AM3 processors, theres no advantage to using DDR3 over DDR2, however for future upgradability you should go with AM3 and DDR3.

You won't see any difference performance wise with daily usage and gaming between HT 2000 and HT 2600. High HT speed are really designed for server processors, where there are enough IO requests to fill up the HT bus.
