Go to Control Panel, Sound, under Audio tab, make sure your sound card is selected. This is where you would setup sounds for windows OS too.
If there are no sound cards to select go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, see if there is a sound card in audio devices, if not you need to install the driver for your specific system.
Finally, double click your volume icon in the tray and max out Wave, CD, MIDI & Aux, set the main "Playback" general volume to the desired level.
