When my XFX 8800gtx 768mb DDR3 died, I bought a PNY 9800 gt 1 gig, I did an RMA with XFX and got a new card. Which should I be using? Can I use both through SLI, my motherboard is an nvidia 790 which sports 2 pci-e slots.

You cant SLI them, no. Cards need to be exactly the same.
Use the 1GB card, eBay the other.

That's not true anymore. They do not have to be identical to SLI anymore, but the thing to remember is that the faster card can only run as fast as the slower card.

I'm not 100% sure if the 8 series can SLI with the 9 series (I know they so do nor have to be identical cards, but I don't know the exact requirements). Why not try it though? It won't break anything and if it doesn't work

then you can either eBay one or juat hold in to it for a spare

isnt the 8800gtx faster than the 9800gt? thats what i though

it is indeed. So that means if you SLI the GT with the GTX, the GTX will run at the same speed as the GT.

So...SLI with a GT and a GTX equals SLI with 2 GTs.
