How to remove write protection from disk drive

I have a 16gb flash stick drive and I can write to it bnut can't remove anything from it. When I try i get the message that the drive is write protected and to use another drive or remove the write protection. how do I remove the write protection. I looked all over the stick for a switch but could not locate one.
