So ... hotshot Phenom CPUs can't really run high speed memory. I thinks that's called a "factory cripple". AMD lusrs take it in the butt again. No wonder the INTEL P58 mobos are so expensive. Only the i7s can run 4-sticks ddr3 @ speed.
But it sounds to me like 1066 might work in dual channel if you're lucky (or if you apply a little more voltage to the RAM)??
If I'm NOT lucky and have to run DDR 800 though, I still wonder if 4GB @ dual channel DDR 800 is faster than 4GB @ single channel 1066. ???
That's what they said in the forums - "more voltage easily solves it". Seems strange that AMD would not only have such a problem, but also not mention it can be solved so easily.
If that doesn't work, go 800. I *doubt* you'll notice the difference.
"DDR2 1066 or above speed is only supported by 1 dimm per channel." Sounds to me like you can run at 1066 but that you can only do it with 2 sticks. Its Double data rate ram so you have to have 2 sticks in order to run at 1066. I think what it means is that you could not run 4 sticks at 1066. 2 sticks is "1 dimm per channel" 4 sticks is 2 dimms per channel.
Yup, run it dual-channel. That's 1 DIMM per channel, and what you were going to do if you had no info, anyway. If for some strange reason it doesn't work, up the voltage a little.
