Hi. I'm getting a new XP Pro machine next week. Question. Is there an
autoexec.bat for XP?

I have a couple of environment variables I'd like to add. Also a couple of
subst commands, plus one DOS exe for my northgate omnikey/ultra keyboard
(yes I still use it), Any advice would be appreciated...Dennis

Hi

You add Environment Variables here:

Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the Advanced tab.

Greetings --

WinXP doesn't use AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS. The empty files are
present simply to provide some backwards compatibility with legacy
applications.

To set environmental variables, Right-Click My Computer >
Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables > System Variables/New
(or Edit, as applicable). You can also add the appropriate line(s) to
C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt and/or C:\Windows\System32\Config.nt.
To run programs on login, create a shortcut to the desired application
and place it in the pertinent Startup folder(s).

Thanks for the reply. Where would you recommend hard drive subst commands
go, autoexec.nt or a shortcut in the startup folder?

Greetings --

If the drive substitution is to apply to all users, I'd recommend
Autoexec.nt. If the drive substitution is to apply only to specific
user(s), I'd recommend the pertinent Startup folders(s).
