PCIE x16 slot running at x8 why?

My ECS 6100SM-M mobo runs it's PCIe slot at 8x although it's the only PCIe slot on the board and is where the GFX card would be placed. I don't understand why this manufacturer decided to run the 16x slot at only 8x??? what's the point???

More about pcie slot running
  1. is there any thing on the motherboard or BIOS stating the speed of it ?

    yes its annoying
  2. If you go to ECS's website http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?detailid=685&CategoryID=1&DetailName=Specification&MenuID=1&LanID=0 and look up your Mobo you can clearly see that the slot is designed to run a X8 they just elongated the slot so you could put a Graphics Card into it. I really wouldn't worry about it because only if your installing a Radeon HD 4850/GTS 250 or more powerful card will you see a very big performance decrease.
  3. ok, first, what card do you have installed in the slot, if its not a 4870x2 or GTX295, then its not a problem

Remember he is running on a PCI Express 1.0 @ X8 so you don't have the same bandwidth as you do with 2.0
