Good morning,

I am wondering if anyone knows how Vista file backup works. When I delete a file on my main hard drive, will microsoft backup delete this file from the backup drive as well, or does it keep it?

I am wondering because I am trying to reduce disk usage and I would hope that when a file is deleted by me, the backup is smart enough to know i dont want it and deletes it in the backup drive to save space. We are talking about hundreds of video files here, so many gigs are at stake!

Thank you!

The answer is NO.

The whole idea of Backup is that if you inadvertently delete a file in your data drive, or if your data drive fails, you can go into Backup and then Restore the files.

In your case, you will have to manually delete the huge video files that you no longer need and then perform a fresh backup.
