Do you have as Award Bios? And why are you flashing from a CD, do you have a floppy drive? I might be able to help you downflash but I need you to answer these questions.

the bios i use is from asus for the m2a-vm mobo from their site. latest is 2302
Okay, we both have ASUS boards and Award Bios I checked your user manual. Use these instructions at your own risk. We both know EZ-Flash will not work, it does not support downflashing. You don't have a floppy so the only thing left is flashing by CD.
Download:
Need To Flash Your BIOS On A PC With No 1.44, (click on 1.44 and save "FLASHCD.ISO" to desktop, if its in an archive extract it)
You will need a ISO application, UltraISO, MagicISO, etc; Use the ISO software to open FLASHCD.ISO. Now drag awdflash and BIOS.BIN into FLASHCD.ISO and "Save" If you double-click on FLASHCD.ISO you should see awdflash and BIOS.BIN if you followed the procedure correctly. Now burn FLASHCD.ISO to a CD. It must be burned as a CD image or it will not load on boot.
Boot into the bios and make sure CDROM is first boot. Restore bios setup defaults before flashing bios, usually F5. Put the CD in with your bios update and hit F10 to save bios setting and reboot.
When the CD autoruns you will come to a screen with some info telling you where your file are, example:
a:\FLASHCD
r:\Bios ROM, etc;
Just remember your flashing tools will be on the second, click continue to go to the next screen. Now you have to change the drive letter, at the a:\prompt type "r:" without the quotes and press enter, your drive letter should be "r" now.
Type awdflash and press enter, this will open the Award tool.
Enter the path to the ROM and follow the instruction. r:\BIOS.BIN
When the flash is complete it will let you know, do not touch anything during this process or you'll be sorry. When prompted to reboot, do so and boot back into the bios. Shut the computer down via PSU power switch and unplug the PSU. Remove CMOS battery and discharge the motherboard by holding in the power button while touching the metal part of the case for approx 30 sec. Put the battery back in and post, you're all done unless you need to re-apply some bios settings, good luck!

when i go into the awdflash tool and i type r:\bios.bin it says do you want to save bios in the message, i hit yes is it supposed to stay in that message?
ok nvm i guess my computer just froze as i tried to load the bios lol it when i put in r:\bios.bin it froze but then i used the name of the bing file r:\m2a-vm.bin it worked. now im running good but i cant set the multiplier on my cpu, is there an app i can use to set that or something? should i try installing the update bios again? right now its auto set to 207x7 >< so im running at 1.44 ghz (ironic) i was running 207x15.5 before
if it helps the first time i bios updated i had the old cpu in still, but i did try redownloading the bios update and reinstalling it. think it would make a difference? i mean is it even worth a shot? its not hard to do now that i have that sweet bootdisk u showed me how to make.
ok so i did the bios update again *crossing fingers* hope this one sticks, im running on it right now on default settings since i did the cmos memory clear right after i updated, been about 5 mins im doing prime 95 on stock bios settings and running as many programs as i can. hope i dont bite m tongue
ok so my computer is still running, prime 95 hasnt halted, but it does skip a beat every now and again, it doesnt halt prime from working tho its like my music stops for a second and its already fully loaded so its not my internet, and my mouse stops moving for a sec, im at very low settings so im afraid maybe if i go up to over 3.0ghz it will halt my system i am running prime tho and a bunch of applications. i hope this is good /sigh at least it hasnt perma halted like it was but i dont like this beat skipping.
ok so i spoke too soon, it halted, i restarted, it halted again faster so i dunno, i downflashed again and tried going one bios update down from the recommended <before i press on,i did call asus and they told me its probly my bios chip, cant handle the stuff thats new> anyways after i tried bios 2201 it once again halted easy as with 2302, so i decided to go up from the bios i have at base so i went up from 1501 to 1604, running all my stuff now, verified that the multiplier does work and the cpu is regonized, system hasnt halted as of yet so once afain *crossing fingers*
so far (i should stop talking before it makes me bite my tongue but) its working, not frozen or anything running at base speeds, ill allow prime 95 run for another 30 mins and hopefuly all will be well and ill head onto overclocking my cpu and ram again
